The Guardian just published a great Jodi Picoult interview.

I started reading JP right after Sept. 11th and her books always blow me away--even when I'm not crazy about a certain part of the story or such, her books are the type that you spend all night reading, then you are go grateful for the ride.

Apparently her forums have been shut down after what happened in Virginia Tech. It's enough to make someone bang their head on a wall.

Jennifer, so good to touch base with you again. My sister works at Tech in the engineering dept. so we were all very nervous last week. Good to hear from you. Keep up with the YA...the market is smokin' right now. :D

Liane! I was just going to e-mail you the blog's address! Great minds...
The thing about VT is that you can say oh, he was bullied, or the public safety was screwed, or it's guns. But poet Nikki Giovanni (who taught the shooter) said that this guy was just plain mean. And that's it.
I'll think good thoughts for your sister... also read How to Become a Famous Writer Before You Are Dead by Ariel Gore, it's great.
